Position

This is an opportunity to run a field engineering team, helping customers understand and implement Canonical's open source solutions in public clouds and their own data centers. The role covers a wide range of cloud offerings, including Ubuntu, virtualization, private cloud, Kubernetes, and sophisticated open source solutions such as MLOps and data platforms. As we expand into new industries like telecommunications, finance, healthcare, and media, we design and develop new solutions to meet these evolving needs.

As a Cloud Field Engineering Manager, you'll be expected to be a hands-on engineer capable of troubleshooting technical issues and engaging in technical presales discussions with customers. Your role will include shaping your team's direction and delivery while also contributing to project delivery. The Field Engineering team works directly with customers, designing cloud solutions based on their workload needs, and your leadership will help grow your team both technically and professionally.

Responsibilities:

  • Lead and develop a team of Field Engineers across various experience levels in Presales and Professional Services.
  • Solve customer problems and act as a trusted advisor by promoting Canonical technologies.
  • Coach, mentor, and provide career development feedback to team members.
  • Identify and measure team health indicators and implement disciplined engineering processes.
  • Actively participate in technical presales to meet departmental goals.
  • Collaborate with other leaders within the organization.

What We're Looking For:

  • Knowledge of cloud computing concepts and technologies, such as Kubernetes, OpenStack, AWS, GCP, Azure, and Ceph.
  • Practical knowledge of Linux and networking.
  • Experience in technical presales.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and a dynamic approach to new projects.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English.
  • Passion for developing and growing team members.
  • Organization skills to ensure timely, high-quality results.
  • Willingness to travel up to 40% of the time for company and customer events.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Proficiency in a second language (Spanish or French preferred).
  • Knowledge of Python and experience collaborating with internal and external partners.
