About the Job: This is an opportunity to run a Professional Services team (also known as Field Engineering), helping customers understand and implement Canonical's open-source solutions in public clouds and their own data centers. The role involves working across the entire spectrum of cloud offerings, from Ubuntu to virtualization, private cloud, Kubernetes, and the implementation of sophisticated open-source solutions. The company is expanding its solutions and entering new industries such as telco, finance, healthcare, and media.

Engineering Managers at Canonical are expected to possess outstanding engineering skills, capable of troubleshooting technical issues and engaging in technical presales conversations. Management skills are encouraged, with an emphasis on training engineers interested in transitioning to management roles. The core goal is to make open-source solutions easier, more reliable, and more secure.

Role of a Cloud Professional Services Manager:

  • Oversee a team of cloud solutions architects, designing private and public cloud solutions tailored to customer workload needs.
  • Manage products including OpenStack, MicroCloud, Ceph, Kubernetes, and more.
  • Participate in technical presales and direct hands-on deployment, testing, and project delivery.

Responsibilities:

  • Lead and develop a team of engineers from graduate to senior levels.
  • Work remotely within a single major time zone.
  • Coach and mentor team members, providing career development advice.
  • Identify and monitor team health indicators.
  • Represent your team and products to stakeholders, partners, and customers.
  • Plan and manage progress on agreed goals and projects.

Qualifications:

  • Knowledge of cloud computing concepts & technologies (Kubernetes, OpenStack, AWS, GCP, Azure, Ceph, etc.).
  • Practical knowledge of Linux and networking.
  • Experience in technical presales.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English.
  • A history of developing and growing engineering talent.
  • Organized and able to ensure timely, high-quality results.
  • Willingness to travel up to 40% of the time.

Preferred Skills:

  • Proficiency in a second language (Spanish or French).
  • Python knowledge.
  • Experience working with external partners and multiple internal teams.
