Position

Join Canonical as an Embedded Linux Senior Software Engineer where you will work across the full Linux stack, from kernel through GUI, to optimise Ubuntu, the world’s most widely used Linux desktop and server, for the latest silicon. This fast-paced and challenging role requires a resourceful and articulate candidate capable of providing a wide range of solutions across PC and IoT technologies. You will collaborate with specialist engineers from major silicon companies to incorporate next-generation features and performance enhancements for upcoming hardware.

Responsibilities:

  • Design and implement optimal Ubuntu integration for the latest IoT and server-class hardware platforms and software stacks.
  • Collaborate with partners to deliver a delightful and optimised Ubuntu experience on their platforms.
  • Take a holistic approach to the Ubuntu experience on partner platforms, contributing to technical plans, testing strategies, and quality metrics.
  • Act as a technical lead on complex customer engagements, involving complete system architectures from cloud to edge.
  • Assist customers in integrating their applications, SDKs, building device OS images, and optimising applications with Ubuntu Core, Desktop, and Server.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, STEM, or a related field.
  • Experience with Linux packaging (Debian, RPM, Yocto).
  • Familiarity with working in open-source communities and licenses.
  • Proficiency in C and C++.
  • Capability to work in a globally distributed team with self-discipline and self-motivation.

Preferred Skills:

  • Experience with graphics stacks.
  • Strong understanding of networking (TCP/IP, DHCP, HTTP/REST).
  • Basic knowledge of security best practices in IoT or server environments.
  • Good communication skills, with public speaking experience being a plus.
  • Experience with IoT/Embedded systems and technologies, from hardware boards and SoCs to applications and services.
  • Knowledge of Docker/OCI containers/Kubernetes.
