As an Engineering Manager, you will drive the future of collaborative open-source development tooling within the Launchpad team. This is a fantastic opportunity for a motivated individual with a passion for open-source software, Linux, and web services to join our distributed team. Launchpad is a robust platform crucial for managing open-source development projects, which includes code hosting and review, bug tracking, and package building.

Your primary responsibility will be to support your team members, ensuring they are growing as engineers and engaged in valuable work while enjoying their experience at Canonical. You will provide technical leadership and foster a culture focused on professional growth, team strategy, and execution.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead and grow a team of engineers in your region.
  • Develop talent through coaching, mentoring, and hands-on career development.
  • Apply sound engineering principles and directly contribute towards your team's goals.
  • Build and maintain productive relationships with stakeholders.
  • Set and manage expectations with engineering teams and external stakeholders.
  • Collaborate proactively with a distributed team and community.
  • Lead the ongoing development of Launchpad, the infrastructure supporting Ubuntu.
  • Advocate for and advance modern, agile software development practices.
  • Foster a healthy, collaborative engineering culture aligned with company values.
  • Engage with the broader leadership team.
  • Work from home with international travel up to 6 weeks per year for internal and external events.

Requirements:

  • Experience leading a distributed team to deliver features and manage production services at scale.
  • Proven ability to mentor, develop, and grow team members.
  • Knowledgeable and passionate about technology.
  • Experience in delivering high-quality software.
  • Familiarity with designing and evolving complex distributed systems.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Solid experience working in an agile development environment.

Work Conditions:

  • This is a remote role based in the EMEA region, and candidates must be located within this region.
  • Opportunity to travel internationally for team events up to 6 weeks per year.
