In this role, you will manage a team responsible for delivering the Ubuntu Server Distribution.
You will be part of a pioneering company that champions global distributed collaboration with over 1200 colleagues across 75+ countries, working predominantly in remote roles. The company meets in person two to four times a year to align on strategy and execution, while remaining focused on the needs of large, innovative customers.
This position is suited for a leader who is passionate about building strong teams and fostering an open source culture. Your responsibilities will include:
- Building and leading a globally distributed team of engineers.
- Developing talent through coaching, mentoring, feedback, and hands-on career development.
- Collaborating with Product Management to define the vision and strategy for Ubuntu.
- Setting and managing expectations with other teams and stakeholders.
- Advocating and advancing agile software development practices.
- Contributing to a healthy engineering culture aligned with company values.
- Engaging with the open-source community and overseeing the quality of the Ubuntu Server image family.
Requirements:
- Proven track record in developing and growing people.
- Strong knowledge and passion for software development.
- 3+ years of experience leading and managing software developers; experience with distributed teams is a plus.
- Focus on delivering high-quality software in an agile environment.
- Bachelor's degree or equivalent in Computer Science, STEM, or similar field.
- Strong written and verbal technical communication skills in English.
- Experience with a modern GNU/Linux distribution, preferably Debian or Ubuntu.
- Practical experience with at least one of Microsoft Azure, Google Cloud, or Amazon Web Services.
