We are seeking a Senior/Staff/Lead Engineer to join the Launchpad team, driving the future of open-source collaboration. Launchpad is a platform that manages open-source development projects, including code hosting, review, bug tracking, package building, and translations. As a senior or staff-level engineer enthusiastic about Linux, web services, and scalable development platforms, you will design and enhance a mature, Python-driven system supporting major projects, such as Ubuntu.

Your role will involve:

  • Driving design, architecture, and feature decisions across distributed teams, ensuring impactful solutions.
  • Writing exceptional, API-first Python code with unit tests, that create robust, scalable systems.
  • Diagnosing complex technical challenges and implementing high-quality fixes.
  • Mentoring fellow engineers and leading code reviews to reinforce best practices.
  • Enjoying remote work while engaging globally, including traveling internationally 2 to 4 times a year for key discussions and events.

Requirements:

  • Passion for technology and solving complex problems.
  • Strategic thinker with strong leadership and collaboration skills.
  • Proven technical excellence in Python development and high-quality code production.
  • Expertise in large-scale web applications and database management (PostgreSQL preferred).
  • Familiarity with distributed environments, integration, infrastructure, and operations.
  • Security-oriented mindset throughout the development process.
  • Familiarity with Ubuntu as a development platform and knowledge of software packaging systems, including Debian/Ubuntu packages.
  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent in Computer Science or a related field.
