Game Director - Console

About the Job:
Steer Studios’ mission is to create world-class video games in Saudi Arabia, developing high-quality products for international audiences. The studio aims to tap into Saudi Arabia’s passionate gaming sector to develop homegrown intellectual properties (IP) and establish the kingdom as a global hub for gaming.

Steer Studios is seeking a Game Director with deep knowledge of multiple game genres and a drive for storytelling to develop the Middle East’s first major international-caliber AAA console/PC game. In this leadership role, you will drive gameplay vision, solve production and creative problems, and collaborate with the Editorial Content Director to produce an exciting new IP. You will be responsible for building design teams and working with both internal and external development partners.

Key Responsibilities:

• Lead the gameplay development of a AAA console/PC game from conception to final release.
• Create an innovative game design vision aimed at delighting players.
• Stay informed about current player trends, industry trends, and future trends.
• Build and manage a team of Game Designers, recruiting internationally and locally.
• Supervise the work of Game Designers to ensure the creation of innovative gameplay experiences.
• Collaborate with the Editorial Content Director on the new game IP's concepts.
• Manage various creative ideation steps from pitching ideas to rapid prototyping.
• Define Game Design Documents (GDDs) for game systems and track developments.
• Regularly play the game for feedback and quality control purposes.
• Train, coach, and develop junior game designers, promoting a culture of experience sharing.
• Communicate effectively with the production team about design capacities and task prioritization.

Qualifications and Key Skills:

• Industry-leading expertise in AAA console game development with multiple AAA titles shipped.
• 8+ years of experience as a game design lead.
• Mastery of industry and market trends.
• Excellent communication skills and professionalism.
• Ability to write clear and concise documentation and provide constructive feedback.
• Strong understanding of KPIs and capability to drive game design around them.
• Experience with prototyping and shipping games using Unreal Engine.
• Extensive knowledge of Game Design principles and the gaming landscape.
• Attention to detail from both technical and artistic perspectives.
• Strong proactive problem-solving and intuitive development skills.
• A Bachelor’s degree or College diploma in game design or equivalent is preferred.
