Role and Responsibilities
As a Senior Manager for Software Development at B&R, you will lead a large team of Product Owners, Technical Leads, and Software Developers/Testers, responsible for the development and delivery of multiple software components within the B&R Software portfolio. With your extensive knowledge and experience in agile software development methods and modern technology stacks, you will support our teams as a driving force in reshaping the Software R&D organization to bring a future-oriented software portfolio for industrial automation to market. You will report to the Vice President of Product Group Software and work closely with the technical leads of the software and firmware teams spread across various parts of the organization.

Your key responsibilities will include:

  • Designing and developing a coherent software and system ecosystem that includes an IDE, a runtime environment for industrial real-time devices, and a digital platform.
  • Collaborating with product teams (hardware and software) to ensure seamless integration of all components, thereby enhancing usability and system performance.
  • Defining and enforcing best practices in software architecture and design, firmware development, and system architecture to ensure non-functional requirements such as performance, security, scalability, and maintainability are met.
  • Utilizing scalable agile methods to facilitate a collaborative and efficient team working environment, ensuring timely delivery of integrated solutions.
  • Collaborating with stakeholders from various areas to gather and validate requirements, ensuring that the software ecosystem meets diverse needs.
  • Leading technological decision-making processes within individual products and the overall product portfolio to ensure alignment with overarching business goals and technological standards.
  • Keeping abreast of new technologies and methods that could benefit the ecosystem and driving continuous innovations and improvements.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Systems Engineering, or a related field.
  • 15-20 years of experience in software development, covering various areas such as front-end applications, cloud services, and embedded software development, alongside a deep understanding of IDEs, runtime environments, and digital platforms.
  • Progressive experience in leading small to large teams (50+ employees) and experience managing first-level managers is essential.
  • Proven track record in leading commercial software products, particularly for B2B customers.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills with the capability to manage complex technical challenges and make informed decisions.
  • Valued personnel manager with strong intercultural skills who has a proven ability to work with individuals in a global R&D environment.
  • Strong communication and stakeholder management skills that enable conveying technical concepts to non-technical audiences and persuading stakeholders in a matrix organization.
  • Experience with modern software development tools, languages, and frameworks, including transitioning teams to such tools and methods.
  • Excellent writing and presentation skills in English; knowledge of German is a plus.

We are committed to a legal minimum salary of € 5,657.48 gross/month, with a clear willingness to overpay depending on qualifications and experience.
