Position

Canonical is a leading provider of open source software and operating systems, known for its platform, Ubuntu, which is widely utilized in enterprise initiatives including public cloud, data science, AI, engineering innovation, and IoT. As an Associate Support Engineer, you will be integral to supporting the technical needs of customers using Ubuntu and other open source products. This role requires a hands-on engineer eager to learn and passionate about Linux and open source technologies.

Daily responsibilities include:

  • Providing expert technical support across the full technical stack of Canonical, from cloud to desktop to IoT.
  • Taking ownership of cases via telephone, email, and web, managing from problem qualification to resolution.
  • Contributing to knowledge base articles and ensuring effective communication within the team.
  • Participating in a weekend working rotation as needed.

Requirements:

  • Exceptional academic track record with an undergraduate degree in a technical field or compelling alternative experience. Preferred majors include Computer Science, MIS, or Electrical Engineering.
  • Strong experience with Linux troubleshooting and configuration, and knowledge of networking and virtualization concepts.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills in English.
  • Ability to learn quickly and thrive in a customer-facing environment.
  • Willingness to travel internationally up to twice a year for company events.

Nice-to-Have Skills:

  • Experience with virtualized environments (e.g., KVM, VMWare) and active contributions to open-source projects.
