About the Job
Canonical is a leading provider of open source software and operating systems for the global enterprise and technology markets. Our platform, Ubuntu, plays a pivotal role in breakthrough enterprise initiatives, including public cloud, data science, AI, engineering innovation, and IoT. We serve some of the world's top public cloud and silicon providers, alongside industry leaders across various sectors. As a pioneer of global distributed collaboration, Canonical employs over 1,100 colleagues in more than 75 countries, with minimal office-based roles. Our teams meet in person two to four times a year in diverse locations to align on strategy and execution. The company is founder-led, profitable, and continues to grow.

We are seeking a Cloud Support Engineer to deliver exceptional technical support across Canonical's full cloud technical stack. This role combines your Linux support and software engineering skills with a passion for technology and broad knowledge of the entire stack—from hardware to application, networking, Linux, and open source. The objective is to assist customers in maximizing their solutions from Canonical. Our team provides outstanding technical support and engineering solutions for open source technologies, including Ubuntu Server, Ubuntu Desktop, OpenStack, and Kubernetes. This is a unique opportunity for an open source technologist who thrives on solving problems under pressure.

Location: This role is office-based in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. Candidates must reside there or be open to relocation.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Leverage your expertise in Linux virtualization using Libvirt/KVM, containers, and Kubernetes to support tailored solutions for our customers.
  • Serve as the technical authority with experience in popular open source software such as PostgreSQL, Corosync/Pacemaker, MongoDB, MySQL, and Apache.
  • Provide strategic advice on deployed architecture, implement solutions for complex issues, and guide customers towards successful data center infrastructure operations.
  • Maintain regular communication with the customer team regarding ongoing issues.

Qualifications:

  • BA/BS degree in Computer Science or a related technical field.
  • Open source development or scripting experience.
  • Professional experience with OpenStack is highly desirable.
  • Professional experience with Kubernetes and/or Ceph.
  • Fluency in English and excellent communication skills, with extensive experience in customer-facing roles.
  • High motivation, ability to multitask, and a reliable follow-up on commitments.
  • Willingness to learn new technologies, such as LXD, Snaps, MAAS, Juju, and Ubuntu.
  • Ability to travel.

If you are passionate about open source technologies, technical support, cloud-native development, and data center technologies like OpenStack, Kubernetes, and networking, the Cloud Support Engineer role at Canonical is an excellent fit for you.

What We Offer:

  • Competitive compensation based on location, experience, and performance, revisited annually.
  • Performance-driven annual bonus or commission structure.
  • Comprehensive benefits that align with our values and ideals.
  • Distributed work environment with semi-annual team gatherings in person.
  • Personal learning and development budget of USD 2,000 per year.
  • Annual compensation review and recognition rewards.
  • Paid maternity and paternity leave, along with an Employee Assistance Programme.
  • Opportunities for travel to meet colleagues globally.
