Position

Canonical is seeking Community Engineers to join our ambition of setting a standard of excellence in serving the open-source ecosystem. As part of the Community team, you will enable community leaders and participants to efficiently manage processes and facilitate their work, allowing them to bring their vision of open source to life.

In this role, you will support community initiatives using your technical skills and organizational abilities. You will collaborate closely with developers to integrate community and Canonical plans for maximum impact and encourage the creation of new technical projects that enhance community contributions. You will also represent community interests to Canonical teams, lead complex, multi-disciplinary programs, and support volunteer developers within the Ubuntu community.

Responsibilities include:

  • Writing high-quality content to promote community initiatives
  • Discussing and collaborating to find solutions to community challenges
  • Engaging with the community through Discourse, Matrix, social media, and conferences
  • Representing Ubuntu at events and conferences
  • Supporting the engagement efforts of Canonical teams in the open-source ecosystem

Work Conditions:

  • Fully remote roles open to candidates worldwide
  • Opportunity for global travel (2 to 4 weeks per year for events and conferences)

Language Requirements:

  • Proficiency in English is required. Additional language skills may be beneficial.

  • Excellent organizational and communication skills
  • The ability to work autonomously and manage objectives effectively
  • A record of contributions to the Ubuntu community or open-source projects
