Position

Canonical is a leading provider of open-source software and operating systems, known for its platform, Ubuntu. The Containerization & Virtualisation Engineer role involves working with virtualisation and container technology from the kernel through userspace. Exceptional Go, Rust, or C/C++ software engineers who are passionate about next-generation open source VMM or container technology are encouraged to apply.

As part of the team, your focus will include:

  • Designing and specifying new features, building consensus on approaches
  • Engaging with upstream communities in your area of expertise
  • Conducting security analysis and reviews
  • Creating and monitoring performance benchmarks
  • Collaborating proactively with a distributed team
  • Writing high-quality code for new features and debugging existing issues
  • Reviewing code produced by other engineers

Qualifications:

  • An exceptional academic track record with an undergraduate degree in Computer Science or STEM.
  • Experience with open source virtualisation or container technologies.
  • Kernel or low-level systems experience preferred.
  • Proficiency in professional written and spoken English.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and a drive to meet commitments.

Additional Skills Valued:

  • Performance engineering and security experience.
