Position

Canonical is a leading provider of open-source software and operating systems, including the widely used Ubuntu platform. We are hiring an Embedded Linux Field Engineer for Devices/IoT to expand our reach in mission-critical industries, including Automotive, Medical Devices, Industrial Systems, Robotics, and Consumer Electronics. We seek candidates who are accomplished Linux engineers, passionate about Linux plumbing, proficient in containerization, system debugging, and familiar with low-level Linux boot, BIOS, firmware, and embedded software development methodologies.

The Embedded Linux Field Engineer will engage with customers during presales, gather requirements, explain our technology, participate in project delivery related to Embedded Linux, and serve as both a customer advocate and trusted advisor within Canonical. This position requires flexibility, a result-oriented mindset, excellent communication skills, and a willingness to travel up to 30% of the time for customer meetings and company events.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Engage customers during presales to gather requirements and explain our technology.
  • Elaborate solutions to be proposed to prospective clients.
  • Participate in the delivery of select projects related to Embedded Linux.
  • Convey market requirements to key stakeholders and help develop solutions to unlock market potential.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or a related technical field.
  • Extensive Linux experience, preferably Debian or Ubuntu.
  • Solid embedded Linux experience (Yocto, Buildroot, or RTOS).
  • Fluency in at least one of Golang, Python, C, C++, or Rust.
  • Professional written and spoken English; fluency in the local language is preferred for positions in Japan and Korea.
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills.
  • Ability to multi-task and a personal drive to meet commitments.
  • Willingness to travel up to 30% of the time.

Work Conditions:

  • This is a remote, full-time position.
  • The successful candidate will be willing to travel for customer meetings, company events, and conferences.
