We are hiring an Embedded Linux Field Engineering Manager to oversee a team of Field Engineers engaged in Presales and Professional Services. The ideal candidate will assist customers in solution architecture, design, and delivery. This is a remote position, and the successful candidate must be located within one of three geographical regions: Americas, EMEA, or APAC.

Our mission in the Internet of Things is to empower companies in creating secure connected device fleets. Canonical provides the base Ubuntu OS and kernel, including secure update and management mechanisms, allowing our customers to develop mission-critical control systems, gateways, and appliances that adhere to strict quality and security norms.

Responsibilities:

  • Lead and develop a team of Field Engineers ranging from graduates to seniors in Presales and Professional Services.
  • Solve customer problems by promoting our technologies and acting as a trusted advisor.
  • Work remotely within a major timezone.
  • Coach, mentor, and provide career development feedback to team members.
  • Identify and measure team health indicators and implement disciplined engineering processes.
  • Represent your team and product to stakeholders, partners, and customers.
  • Develop and promote effective engineering and organizational practices.
  • Plan and manage progress on established goals and projects.
  • Actively collaborate as part of the leadership team.

Qualifications:

  • Exceptional academic record from high school and university.
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or a related technical field.
  • Extensive experience with embedded Linux (Yocto or similar).
  • Significant Linux experience (Debian or Ubuntu preferred).
  • Fluency in at least one programming language such as Golang, Python, C, C++, or Rust.
  • Experience managing a small team and customer engagements.
  • Professional written and spoken English is required.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, curiosity, flexibility, and accountability.
  • Result-oriented with a strong drive to meet commitments.
  • Ability to communicate the business benefits of technology.
  • A humble learner and quick study.

Desirable Skills:

  • Experience with RTOS.
  • Proficiency in additional languages (both programming and human languages).
  • Previous experience in a remote-first, diverse, distributed work environment.
