Position

Canonical is a leading provider of open source software and operating systems, particularly known for the Ubuntu platform used in enterprise initiatives including public cloud, data science, AI, engineering innovation, and IoT. As an Embedded Linux Field Engineering Manager, you will lead a regionally-focused team of Field engineers involved in Presales and Professional Services activities, assisting customers with solution architecture, design, and delivery.

This role is intended for someone located in the Americas, EMEA, or APAC, as you will manage a team that spans these time zones. The mission is to enable companies to create secure connected devices using Canonical’s base Ubuntu OS and kernel.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead and develop a team of Field engineers in Presales and Professional Services.
  • Solve customer problems by actively promoting our technologies and serving as a trusted advisor.
  • Coach, mentor, and provide career development feedback to your team.
  • Identify and measure team health indicators and implement disciplined engineering processes.
  • Represent your team and product to stakeholders, partners, and customers.
  • Collaborate with other leaders as part of the leadership team.

Requirements:

  • Exceptional academic track record from both high school and university.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or a related technical field.
  • Extensive experience with embedded Linux (e.g., Yocto) and Linux (Debian or Ubuntu preferred).
  • Proficiency in at least one programming language (Golang, Python, C, C++, or Rust).
  • Experience managing a small team and engaging with customers.
  • Professional written and spoken English proficiency.
  • Strong interpersonal skills, curiosity, flexibility, and accountability.
  • Result-oriented with a personal drive to meet commitments.

Preferred Skills:

  • Experience with RTOS.
  • Knowledge of additional programming or spoken languages.
  • Previous experience in a remote-first, diverse, distributed company.
