About the Job:
Canonical is a leading provider of open source software and operating systems, specifically through its platform, Ubuntu. This role involves managing a team of Field engineers focused on Presales and Professional Services activities. The Embedded Linux Field Engineering Manager will help customers with solution architecture, design, and delivery, operating remotely within one of three geographical regions: Americas, EMEA, or APAC.

The mission of our Internet of Things initiative is to enable companies to create secure connected devices. Our Field Engineers are key thought leaders, helping customers tackle complex problems with a hands-on approach to embedded Linux strategy and delivery.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead and develop a team of Field engineers at various experience levels in Presales and Professional Services.
  • Promote technologies and act as a trusted advisor to customers.
  • Coach and mentor team members, offering career development feedback.
  • Identify and measure team health indicators.
  • Implement disciplined engineering processes and represent your team to stakeholders, partners, and customers.
  • Plan and manage progress on agreed goals and projects.

What We Are Looking For:

  • Exceptional academic track record with a Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or a related technical field.
  • Extensive embedded Linux experience (Yocto or similar) and Linux experience (Debian or Ubuntu preferred).
  • Proficiency in at least one programming language (Golang, Python, C, C++, or Rust).
  • Strong team management experience, particularly in customer engagements.
  • Fluent in written and spoken English.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills with a result-oriented mindset.

Desirable Traits:

  • Experience with Real-Time Operating Systems (RTOS) and multilingual skills (programming and human languages).
  • Previous experience in remote-first, diverse, distributed work environments.
