We are hiring an Engineering Manager to drive the future of collaborative open-source development tooling as part of the Launchpad team. This role is an opportunity for a motivated engineering manager with a passion for open-source software, Linux, and web services to join our distributed team. Launchpad is a robust platform for managing open-source development projects, providing essential infrastructure for major projects like Ubuntu. As an Engineering Manager at Canonical, your primary responsibility is to support your team by ensuring their growth as engineers and their satisfaction in their roles.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Grow and lead a team of engineers in your region.
  • Develop talent through coaching, mentoring, feedback, and hands-on career development.
  • Apply sound engineering principles and directly contribute toward your team's goals.
  • Create and maintain productive relationships with stakeholders.
  • Set and manage expectations with other engineering teams, management, and external stakeholders.
  • Collaborate proactively with a distributed team and community.
  • Lead the ongoing development of Launchpad.
  • Advocate and advance modern, agile software development practices.
  • Grow a healthy, collaborative engineering culture in line with the company values.
  • Engage actively with the broader leadership team.

Work Conditions:

  • This is a remote role based in the EMEA region.
  • International travel is required up to 6 weeks per year for internal and external events.

  • Experience leading a distributed team to deliver features and manage production services at scale.

  • Knowledgeable and passionate about technology.
  • Experience delivering high-quality software and designing complex distributed systems.
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills.
  • Solid experience working in an agile development environment.
