About the Job:
The world creates more than 2.5 quintillion bytes of data every day! Canonical aims to help teams store data using open-source storage solutions on commodity hardware—safely, cheaply, and simply. The goal is to make Ceph easy to install, manage, and use, from large enterprise data center installations to half-rack edge sites, easing the process of meeting increasing data storage demands.

As an Engineering Manager at Canonical, your core responsibility will be to run an effective team while fostering the growth of your colleagues. You will lead a team building a Ceph-focused software-defined storage solution, manage a globally distributed team, and maintain high engineering standards. Your role includes developing a collaborative culture, advancing modern software development practices, and ensuring sound software architecture and best practices in quality, testing, and documentation.

Responsibilities:

  • Lead and manage a team of engineers focusing on Ceph software-defined storage solutions.
  • Coach, mentor, and provide feedback to team members for their development.
  • Contribute directly to the team’s goals while demonstrating sound engineering principles.
  • Set reasonable schedules based on feedback loops for continuous improvement.
  • Manage expectations with other engineering teams and external stakeholders.
  • Foster a culture of quality and engineering excellence.

Who You Are:

  • You have a strong software engineering background, preferably with experience in Python and C++.
  • You are experienced in operating scale-out storage clusters on Linux, ideally with Ceph.
  • You embrace new technologies and have a proven track record in developing and nurturing talent.
  • You have solid experience working in an agile development environment.

Location and Work Conditions:
Jiddah, Makkah, Saudi Arabia (Remote) - Full-time, Remote with global travel up to 20% for internal and external events.
