About the Job:
Canonical is a leading provider of open-source software and operating systems, known for its platform, Ubuntu, which is widely used in enterprise initiatives across public cloud, data science, AI, and IoT. We are expanding the MAAS (Metal as a Service) team and seeking an experienced Engineering Manager. This role is centered on building and managing private bare-metal infrastructure, providing a cloud-style on-demand API for physical server provisioning, network configuration, and storage.

Location: Dubai, Dubai, United Arab Emirates (Remote)
Work Conditions: Full-time, Remote, with travel required (4 to 6 weeks per year)

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead a distributed team of engineers within your time zone.
  • Develop talent through coaching, mentoring, and feedback.
  • Manage expectations with other engineering teams and stakeholders.
  • Advocate for and advance modern software development practices.
  • Participate in the engineering process through code and architectural reviews.
  • Engage with internal teams, the open-source community, and partners.
  • Travel to internal and external global events for up to two weeks twice a year.

Key Qualifications:

  • Exceptional academic track record and an undergraduate degree in a technical subject.
  • Proficiency in English, with excellent written and spoken communication skills.
  • Experience with Linux (preferably Debian or Ubuntu).
  • Strong leadership abilities and commitment to skills development.
  • Familiarity with modern Linux cloud computing technologies (networking, storage, containers, Kubernetes).
  • Programming experience in Python and Go; nice-to-have experience in Typescript using modern web frameworks.
