About the Job: Canonical is a leading provider of open source software and operating systems, particularly known for Ubuntu, utilized extensively in areas like public cloud, data science, AI, and IoT. We partner with top cloud providers, including Amazon, Microsoft, and Google, to optimize Ubuntu for their infrastructure. We build, test, and publish Ubuntu images to ensure performance and security in cloud environments.

As an Engineering Manager, you will lead a team focused on delivering exceptional public cloud VM experiences and integrating specialized images for various cloud use cases. This role requires technical and management skills to support your team, ensure their growth, and maintain the stability and functionality our cloud users expect.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Build and lead a team of engineers in your timezone.
  • Develop talent through mentoring, coaching, and hands-on career development.
  • Contribute directly to your team's goals utilizing sound engineering principles.
  • Manage expectations with other engineering teams and stakeholders.
  • Lead modern, agile software development practices and foster a collaborative engineering culture.
  • Engage with multiple teams at Canonical as well as the open-source community and commercial partners.

Requirements:

  • Proficient in Python and Golang.
  • Experience in software development with a focus on high-quality agile deliverables.
  • Bachelor's or equivalent in Computer Science, STEM, or a related field.
  • Familiarity with Microsoft Azure, Google Cloud, or AWS is preferred.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
