Position

Canonical is a leading provider of open source software and operating systems, known primarily for its Ubuntu platform. We are hiring Graduate Software Engineers for 2024 and 2025 to join our global engineering teams. The role offers a wide range of software engineering challenges across open source products and commercial business systems.

As a Graduate Software Engineer, you will engage in various areas of development from low-level Linux system components, like BIOS and boot loaders, to high-level desktop applications and cloud-based systems. You'll work with programming languages including Python, Golang, Rust, C/C++, and JavaScript. This position is suited for individuals passionate about the open source landscape, and we will assist you in finding a team that matches your skills and interests.

Most engineering teams operate remotely, aligning by time zones (EMEA, APAC, AMER) to foster collaboration. You’ll be expected to contribute to meaningful projects with shared problem-solving, while maintaining a balance between work and personal life.

Location: Dubai, Dubai, United Arab Emirates (Remote)
Work Conditions: Full-time, Remote, with in-person team sprints twice a year.

Language Requirements:
Professional written and spoken English is required.

What We Are Looking For:

  • Exceptional academic track record from high school and university.
  • Undergraduate degree in Computer Science, Business Informatics, Mathematics, or other STEM disciplines that include programming courses.
  • Confidence in delivering high-quality code in languages such as Python, Rust, C/C++, Golang, JavaScript, or Java.
  • Experience with Ubuntu or another Linux distribution.
  • A track record of exceeding expectations and achieving outstanding results.
  • Strong personal projects in technology and software engineering beyond the curriculum.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, curiosity, flexibility, and accountability.

Nice-to-Have Skills:

  • Experience with upstream open source contributions.
  • Familiarity with packaging and Linux distribution contributions.
  • Additional skills in leadership, organization, presentation, and writing.
