Position

Canonical seeks a Junior Software Developer with a proven track record in Python and/or Go. As part of the Observability team, you will develop a cloud-native monitoring stack composed of best-in-class open-source monitoring tools. This stack is designed to be resilient, scalable, and user-friendly, providing deep insights right out of the box. You will monitor applications across various cloud technologies, including Kubernetes and OpenStack, as well as bare-metal, virtual machines, and containers.

This is a great opportunity for a software engineer passionate about open source software, Linux, Kubernetes, and observability. The role offers the chance to work with a globally distributed team, contributing to a significant project while building a rewarding career at Canonical, the company behind Ubuntu.

Location: Remote (Jiddah, Makkah, Saudi Arabia)

Work Conditions:

  • Fully remote working environment.
  • Global travel required 2 to 4 weeks a year for internal and external events.
  • Collaborate proactively with a distributed team.
  • Write, test, and document high-quality code.
  • Review code from colleagues and attend conferences representing Canonical.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent in Computer Science, STEM, or a similar field.
  • Proficient in Python, with experience in open source preferred.
  • Working knowledge of Go.
  • Interest and experience in Ubuntu Linux, container images, Debian packaging, snap, and distributed systems.
