Position

This is an opportunity for a Linux Engineer/Administrator with a passion for Linux and Customer Success to build a career with Canonical and support the technical needs of customers leveraging Ubuntu and open source products. The Linux Desktop & Devices Support Engineer will be accountable for delivering an outstanding technical support experience on the full Desktop and Server technical stack at Canonical. Responsibilities include managing technical support cases, providing excellent customer communication, and prioritizing customer issues.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide technical support for employees from a remote home office.
  • Take ownership of new cases via telephone, email, and web.
  • Ensure each support case is handled according to Service Level Agreements (SLA) with high customer satisfaction.
  • Contribute to and maintain knowledge base articles for shared knowledge.
  • Prioritize work tasks and engage in continuous learning as products evolve.
  • Participate in a regular weekend working rotation.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in a technical field (Computer Science, MIS, Electrical Engineering, etc.) or equivalent experience.
  • Experience with system performance troubleshooting and Linux troubleshooting.
  • Ability to integrate Linux with other environments (authentication/directory services, network file systems).
  • Programming fundamentals in one or more languages (bash, python, Perl, Ruby, Javascript, C, C++, Go).
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills in English.
  • Willingness to travel up to 4 times a year for internal events.

Additional Skills:

  • Experience with virtualized environments (KVM, Virtual Box, VMWare).
  • Contributions to open-source projects, forums, or code.
  • Familiarity with Linux Kernel.
