Ubuntu is widely utilized in enterprise initiatives across various sectors including public cloud, data science, AI, engineering innovation, and IoT. We're seeking a Linux Kernel Engineer to join our rapidly growing kernel team. This team is responsible for all supported Ubuntu Linux kernels across diverse platforms and architectures—from small embedded devices to supercomputers. The role involves enabling hardware, enhancing virtualization, ensuring security, reliability, and performance.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Collaborate regularly with a globally distributed team.
  • Work closely with external silicon, cloud, or hardware manufacturers.
  • Diagnose and resolve kernel issues reported by customers or identified through testing.
  • Take responsibility for delivering a flavor of the Ubuntu Linux kernel.
  • Improve tooling and automation for kernel delivery and testing.
  • Submit, review, and apply kernel patches.

What We Are Looking For:

  • Significant programming experience in C; familiarity with Python, Golang is advantageous.
  • Substantial experience with operating system kernel internals and concepts, particularly Linux.
  • Solid background with git and experience in developing with software packaging formats like Ubuntu/Debian/Snap.
  • Understanding of Linux kernel upstream processes and release cycles.
  • Professional written and spoken English skills.
  • Willingness to travel twice a year for company events (up to two weeks each).

Preferred Skills:

  • Strong grasp of device drivers and low-level system engineering.
  • Experience with performance engineering and security.
  • Background in CI/CD and process automation.
  • Prior involvement with an open-source project.
