Position

We are seeking a software engineer passionate about software quality, Ubuntu, and the open-source community to join the Ubuntu Quality Engineering team. As part of this team, you will help expand the set of open-source packages we support and secure. Quality engineering is regarded as a fundamental engineering practice at Canonical, and we are looking for individuals who can provide deep engineering insights into automation, testing capabilities, reporting, and data analytics, while running processes in partnership with Canonical and community teams.

In your role as an Ubuntu Quality Engineer, you will be responsible for driving quality excellence across various teams, conducting research on existing issues, troubleshooting problems, and identifying opportunities for improvement, ultimately enhancing the overall quality of Ubuntu. This position offers a great opportunity to start and advance your career in the QA domain.

What Your Day Will Look Like:

  • Monitor indicators of quality across the Ubuntu ecosystem and products.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve issues in Ubuntu Desktop, Ubuntu Server, and Ubuntu Core.
  • Enhance our continuous integration to maintain the quality of Ubuntu images, releases, and packages.
  • Report on KPIs and analytical insights.
  • Empower teams for better planning and consistent quality improvements.
  • Develop, enhance, and automate test cases, from unit tests to end-to-end multi-machine workloads.
  • Work from home with international travel twice a year for events lasting up to two weeks.

What We Are Looking For:

  • Strong software engineering, Linux, and open-source background.
  • In-depth knowledge of Python and Shell scripting.
  • Experience with C/C++.
  • Excellent troubleshooting skills and collaboration experience.
  • Familiarity with quality processes and continuous integration tools.
  • Experience in an agile development environment.

Additional Skills That You Might Bring:

  • Experience with Debian/Ubuntu-based operating systems and a good understanding of Debian packaging and snaps would be an advantage.
