About the Job:

We are recruiting a Ubuntu Security Engineer to join our software security team, which is dedicated to protecting the open source community and Ubuntu users from emerging threats. The role includes monitoring, triaging, responding to, and documenting vulnerabilities in open source software. Key responsibilities involve collaboration with both internal teams and external partners, vulnerability assessment, and code review, among others. The position requires the ability to work effectively in a globally distributed team and involves international travel for company events, usually lasting one week.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Analyze, fix, and test vulnerabilities in Ubuntu packages.
  • Track and manage vulnerabilities as they are discovered and resolved.
  • Collaborate with the Ubuntu community and upstream developers to develop patches.
  • Audit source code for vulnerabilities.

Qualifications:

  • Strong understanding of security vulnerabilities and remediation techniques.
  • Familiarity with coordinated disclosure practices.
  • Proficient in open source development, and skilled in C, Python, Go, Rust, Java, Ruby, or PHP.
  • Experience with Linux, preferably Debian or Ubuntu.
  • Excellent problem-solving, troubleshooting, and communication skills.
  • Ability to work within a diverse, multi-cultural organization.

Language Requirements:
Effective communication skills in English.
