Position

Canonical is a leading provider of open source software and operating systems to the global enterprise and technology markets. The company focuses on making systems and infrastructures easy to use, reliable, and efficient, primarily through their renowned platform, Ubuntu.

As a Software Architect for Canonical LXD and MicroCloud, you will drive the architecture, design, and evolution of LXD, a modern Golang system container and virtual machine orchestrator that is widely used across Linux platforms. You will work on creating clustered computing solutions with system containers or virtual machines, ensuring that setting up a cloud environment is straightforward and efficient.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Leading the architecture of LXD and MicroCloud
  • Mentoring and developing colleagues
  • Developing in Golang and C
  • Reviewing code produced by the engineering team
  • Ensuring product security and performance
  • Providing technical leadership within Canonical and the community

Requirements:

  • Undergraduate degree in Computer Science or related STEM field
  • Experience in Golang and C
  • Knowledge of modern cloud infrastructure and underlying technologies
  • Familiarity with container technologies, storage, networking, and virtualization
  • Experience with concurrent, distributed systems
  • Competent written and spoken English
  • Knowledge of Linux (Debian or Ubuntu preferred)
