Position

Canonical is a leading provider of open source software and operating systems to the global enterprise and technology markets. Our platform, Ubuntu, is widely utilized in critical enterprise initiatives such as public cloud, data science, AI, engineering innovation, and IoT. Our customer base includes premier public cloud and silicon providers, as well as industry leaders across various sectors.

We are seeking a software architect for Canonical LXD and MicroCloud, with the mission of creating clusters of compute with system containers or virtual machines that are easy to deploy and manage. The role involves challenges in distributed systems, virtualization, container technology, networking, and storage. Your responsibilities will include driving the architecture, design, and evolution of LXD, a modern Golang system container and virtual machine orchestrator, along with Canonical MicroCloud.

As a software architect, you will:

  • Lead the architecture of LXD and MicroCloud.
  • Mentor and develop colleagues.
  • Code in Golang and C, review others' code, and ensure product security and performance.
  • Provide technical leadership within Canonical and our communities.
  • Work from home with global travel twice a year for company events.

What We Are Looking For:

  • Exceptional academic background in Computer Science or related STEM fields.
  • Experience with Go and C, storage, networking, and virtualization.
  • Familiarity with container technologies and concurrent, distributed systems.
  • Excellent written and spoken English.
  • Strong interpersonal skills, curiosity, flexibility, and accountability.
