We are hiring a Software Engineer - L3 Support to work in a dynamic engineering role focused on Linux-based infrastructure and applications. This role covers all layers of the stack, including bare metal, virtualization (KVM), containerization (Docker/LXC/LXD), storage (Ceph and Linux filesystems), networking (OVS, OVN and Core networking), OpenStack, Kubernetes, and the open-source applications that run on top of them.

You will face challenges that require a breadth of engineering skills across the stack. The role is ideal for a technologist passionate about Linux and open source, with excellent communication skills and a desire to troubleshoot and resolve issues that affect millions of users globally.

Responsibilities:

  • Resolve complex customer problems related to Ubuntu, Kernel, Ceph, OpenStack, or Kubernetes.
  • Maintain close relationships with Canonical's Field, Support, and product engineering teams.
  • Participate in upstream communities and develop bug fixes, backport patches, and work with upstream for inclusion.
  • Review code produced by other engineers and demonstrate sound judgment in technical methods.
  • Prioritize work and manage time against those priorities effectively.
  • Participate in team discussions to improve processes, tools, and documentation.
  • Communicate clearly, technically, and concisely.
  • Work from home and travel internationally up to 10% of your time for team meetings, events, and conferences.

Qualifications:

  • Exceptional academic track record.
  • Background in Computer Science, STEM, or a similar field.
  • Experience with Linux and open-source software.
  • Proficiency in at least one of the following programming languages: Python, Go, C, or C++ on Linux.
  • Willingness to learn unfamiliar technologies and dive deep into complex issues.
  • Openness to travel up to four times a year for internal events.
