Position

Canonical is a leading provider of open source software and operating systems to the global enterprise and technology markets. Our platform, Ubuntu, is widely used in initiatives such as public cloud, data science, AI, and IoT. We are seeking a Software Engineer - L3 Support to work in a dynamic engineering role focused on Linux-based infrastructure and applications. This position involves troubleshooting and resolving complex customer issues related to Ubuntu, Kernel, Ceph, OpenStack, Kubernetes, and other open source software.

In this role, you will maintain a close working relationship with Canonical's Field, Support, and product engineering teams, participate in upstream communities, develop bug fixes, review code from other engineers, and contribute to improving processes and documentation. Successful candidates will demonstrate exceptional technical judgment, the ability to prioritize work effectively, and maintain clear communications with team members and customers.

Location: Riyadh, Riyadh, Saudi Arabia (Remote)
Work Conditions: Full-time, Remote role with occasional international travel (up to 10% of work time) for team meetings, events, and conferences.

Requirements:

  • Exceptional academic track record
  • Background in Computer Science, STEM, or similar
  • Experience with Linux and open source software
  • Proficiency in at least one of: Python, Go, C, or C++ on Linux
  • A drive to learn unfamiliar technology and tackle complex issues
  • Willingness to travel for internal events (up to 4 times a year)

Nice-to-Have Skills:

  • Passion for technology and collaboration
  • Curiosity, flexibility, and strong accountability
  • Interest or willingness to learn about any of the following: Ubuntu Linux (kernel or userspace), Kubernetes, OpenStack, Ceph, QEMU/KVM, LXC/LXD, PostgreSQL, MongoDB, Debian packaging, distributed systems

Language Requirements:

  • Proficiency in English is expected; additional language skills may be beneficial.
