Position

Canonical is a leading provider of open source software and operating systems to global enterprise and technology markets. Its platform, Ubuntu, is widely used in various initiatives such as public cloud, data science, AI, engineering innovation, and IoT. The Canonical Public Cloud team seeks enthusiastic engineers to work closely with the Ubuntu Engineering organization, optimizing technologies for public clouds.

As a distro engineer on the Public Cloud team, you will collaborate with partners like Amazon, Microsoft, Google, IBM, and Oracle to ensure an exceptional operating experience for users on their infrastructures. Your role will involve maintaining extensive continuous deployment operations for Ubuntu Server cloud environments and contributing to the evolution of Ubuntu.

Location: Dubai, Dubai, United Arab Emirates (Remote)

Work Conditions:

  • Remote full-time position
  • Global travel for 2 to 4 weeks per year for internal and external events

Key Responsibilities:

  • Collaborating proactively within a distributed team
  • Fostering a seamless software ecosystem for all Ubuntu users
  • Evaluating contributions from other engineers to uphold high-quality software standards
  • Debugging issues related to open-source and team-maintained code
  • Working with the Ubuntu Engineering Server team to maintain and package software, including cloud agents and traditional server workloads

What We Are Looking For:

  • Passion for technology and collaboration with talented individuals
  • Curiosity, flexibility, accountability, and strong communication skills
  • Interest or experience in public cloud operations or architecture
  • Understanding of open source principles and contribution
  • Strong fundamentals in Python
  • Interest in Linux distribution packaging and basic reproducibility/testing
  • Familiarity with containerization and virtualization technologies

Language Requirements:

  • Proficiency in English is typically required
