About the Job:
Ubuntu Pro is a suite of specialist services provided by Canonical. It includes a command-line tool that manages services for both enterprise customers and personal users. The quality and stability of the Ubuntu Pro Client are critically important, as it comes pre-installed on every Ubuntu system.
In this role, you will collaborate with the Ubuntu Server team, major cloud partners, and various Canonical product teams to develop, test, and release improvements to the Pro client. Effective communication with users is essential to ensure their needs are met.
This position focuses on quality-oriented software engineering in Python, emphasizing software interoperability across a wide range of target releases and environments. Excellent Python skills are a key requirement, and previous contributions to open-source Python projects would be an advantage. Familiarity with Ubuntu package management, apt configuration, deb packaging, and general system administration are also beneficial.
Candidates should be passionate about the Ubuntu project and its values, committed to building tools used by millions. A focus on quality, user experience, documentation, and community coordination is crucial. The Pro client serves a diverse user base, from mission-critical environments to hobbyist users, so you should be prepared to engage with all types of end users and promote best engineering practices.
Responsibilities:
- Collaborate proactively with a distributed team
- Write high-quality code, including unit and functional tests, to create new features
- Debug issues and produce high-quality code to resolve them
- Review code produced by other engineers
- Discuss ideas and investigate solutions
- Work from home, with global travel 2 to 4 weeks per year for internal and external events

- Ubuntu Linux systems administration
- Continuous integration
- End-system contract management
- Debian packaging
- Working with public or on-premise clouds
