Position

Canonical is a leading provider of open source software and operating systems to the global enterprise and technology markets, primarily known for its platform, Ubuntu. The company specializes in breakthrough enterprise initiatives such as public cloud, data science, AI, engineering innovation, and IoT.

We are seeking a Software Engineering Manager to lead Multipass, which serves as a workstation mini-cloud for developers. Multipass is designed for macOS, Windows, and Linux, enabling users to quickly launch virtual machines for various development tasks. As an engineering manager, you will manage and develop a team of engineers, ensuring their growth and professional satisfaction while also delivering high-quality software solutions.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead a remote team of engineers, focusing on talent development through coaching and mentoring.
  • Set and manage expectations with engineering teams, senior management, and external stakeholders.
  • Advocate for modern software development practices and participate in code and architectural reviews.
  • Collaborate with teams within Canonical, the open-source community, and partners.
  • Engage in global travel for 4 to 6 weeks per year for internal and external events.

What We Are Looking For:

  • Passion for developing and growing talent.
  • Proven track record in delivering high-quality software on time.
  • Bachelor's or equivalent degree in Computer Science, STEM, or a similar field.
  • Strong written and verbal technical communication skills.
  • Expertise in modern C++ development and cross-platform experience on macOS and/or Windows.
  • Familiarity with hypervisor technologies such as Hyper-V, VirtualBox, and KVM.
  • Open-source experience and involvement.

Work Conditions: This is a remote position available in EMEA and the Americas, with the flexibility to work from home and attend company events globally.

Language Requirements: Strong written and verbal communication skills in English are necessary.
