We are hiring a Software Maintenance Engineer to engage in a dynamic and impactful engineering role focusing on Linux-based infrastructure and applications. This position covers all layers of the stack, including bare metal, virtualization (KVM), containerization (Docker/LXC/LXD), storage (Ceph and Linux filesystems), networking (OVS, OVN and Core networking), OpenStack, Kubernetes, and the open source applications built upon them. As a Software Maintenance Engineer, you will be challenged to employ your engineering skills to address issues for enterprise customers using Ubuntu and associated open source applications. This role is ideal for a technologist passionate about Linux and open source, with strong communication skills and a knack for troubleshooting. You will be responsible for resolving complex customer problems, maintaining collaborative relationships with various teams, developing bug fixes, participating in upstream communities, and contributing to process improvements.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Resolve customer issues related to Ubuntu, Kernel, Ceph, OpenStack, Kubernetes, and other open source software.
  • Maintain relationships with Canonical's Field, Support, and product engineering teams.
  • Participate in upstream communities, develop bug fixes, and review code from peers.
  • Communicate effectively and prioritize work efficiently.

What We Are Looking For:

  • Exceptional academic track record, preferably in Computer Science or STEM fields.
  • Experience with Linux and open source software.
  • Proficiency in at least one programming language (Python, Go, C, or C++) on Linux.
  • A drive to learn and tackle challenging technological issues.
  • Willingness to travel up to four times a year for internal events.

  • Passion for technology and collaboration with talented peers.
  • Interest in learning about technologies such as Ubuntu Linux, Kubernetes, OpenStack, Ceph, and distributed systems.
