About the Job:
Canonical is a leading provider of open-source software and operating systems, known for its platform, Ubuntu. This role as a Software Support Engineer involves working in a dynamic and exciting engineering environment, dealing with Linux-based infrastructure and applications across various layers of the stack, including bare metal, virtualization, containerization, storage, networking, OpenStack, and Kubernetes. You will be challenged to exhibit your engineering skills and will work on key issues relevant to large enterprise customers.
This position is ideal for a technologist passionate about Linux and open-source software, with a focus on problem-solving and improving technology used globally. You will engage in troubleshooting and driving issues to resolution using workarounds, guidance, and upstream bug fixes.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Resolve complex customer issues related to Ubuntu, Kernel, Ceph, OpenStack, Kubernetes, and other open-source software.
  • Maintain close relationships with Canonical's Field, Support, and product engineering teams.
  • Participate in upstream communities and contribute to code reviews and bug fixes.
  • Demonstrate effective communication and technical judgment.
  • Manage your time and prioritize tasks effectively.
  • Travel internationally up to 10% of the time for team meetings, events, and conferences.

What We Are Looking For:

  • An exceptional academic track record in Computer Science, STEM, or a similar field.
  • Experience with Linux and open-source software.
  • Proficiency in at least one programming language (Python, Go, C, or C++) on Linux.
  • Eagerness to learn and tackle complex issues.
  • Willingness to travel for internal events (up to 4 times per year).
