The Associate Data Engineer will play a critical role in delivering world-class big data solutions that drive impact for the dubizzle business. This position entails exciting projects covering the entire data life cycle—ranging from raw data integrations with primary and third-party systems, advanced data modeling, to cutting-edge data visualization and the development of innovative data products.
In this position, you will build and work with both batch and real-time data processing pipelines within a modern cloud-based data warehousing environment. You will collaborate with diverse teams, including product & tech, core business verticals, trust & safety, finance, and others, to enable their success.
Key Responsibilities
- Integrate raw data with primary and third-party systems.
- Model data warehouses for operational and application data layers.
- Develop within Amazon Redshift clusters.
- Participate in SQL development as part of an agile team workflow.
- Design and implement ETL in Matillion ETL.
- Work on real-time data pipelines and applications using AWS services like Lambda, Kinesis, and API Gateway.
- Design and implement data products that enable data-driven features or business solutions.
- Ensure data quality, system stability and security, and uphold coding standards in SQL and Python.
- Build data dashboards and advanced visualizations in Periscope Data, focusing on user experience, simplicity, and usability.
- Collaborate with other departments on data-related projects.
- Contribute to a strong team culture, striving to be at the forefront of big data innovations.
- Work independently on complex projects and participate in regular ETL status checks.
Requirements
Qualifications:
- Top-tier technical degree, such as in computer science, engineering, math, or physics.
Experience:
- 3+ years of experience with customer-centric data at a big data scale, preferably in an online/e-commerce context.
- 2+ years of experience with programming languages, especially Python.
- Proven track record in business intelligence solutions, data warehouse scaling, and data modeling.
- Experience with modern big data ETL tools (e.g., Matillion) is a plus.
- Familiarity with AWS data ecosystem or other cloud providers.
- Proficiency in modern data visualization platforms (e.g., Sisense, Google Data Studio, Tableau, MS Power BI).
Knowledge:
- Strong understanding of real-time data pipelines (e.g., serverless frameworks, Lambda, Kinesis) is advantageous.
- Knowledge of relational and dimensional data models.
- Familiarity with terminal operations and Linux workflows.
Skills:
- Exceptional SQL skills across various relational data warehousing technologies, particularly in cloud data warehousing environments (e.g., Amazon Redshift, Google BigQuery, Snowflake).
- Ability to effectively communicate insights to a non-technical audience.
- Proficient in written and verbal English.
