The AI for Good Lab is looking for machine learning professionals with strong experience in developing foundational language models (Large Language Models, Vision Language Models) to join a newly created office in Abu Dhabi. This lab leverages the power of data, cloud technology, data science talent, and the Microsoft brand to inspire partnerships aimed at solving the world's greatest challenges. Over recent years, the lab has evolved into a solution creator, storyteller, and trusted advisor, collaborating with leaders across Microsoft, academia, NGOs, and government sectors. Our mission is to be a leading applied research and data visualization hub that drives positive changes in the world.

As a member of the AI for Good Lab, you will engage in projects that save lives, alleviate suffering, and restore human dignity. Your work will combine AI development, data engineering, and collaboration with partners, NGOs, and government institutions. You will be surrounded by world-class applied researchers dedicated to AI for Good, and will have access to Microsoft’s technological resources on a global scale to confront some of today’s most pressing challenges.

Requirements
- Doctorate in relevant field AND 3+ years related research experience OR equivalent experience
- Experience participating in a top conference in relevant research domain
- Experience publishing academic papers as a lead author or essential contributor
- Doctorate in relevant field AND 5+ years related research experience OR equivalent experience
- Experience building artificial neural networks
- 2+ peer-reviewed journal publications or conference presentations (preferably on LLMs)
- 2 years experience in delivering AI projects
- 1 year of experience with PyTorch
Responsibilities
- Create LLMs for various applications, including specialized or under-resourced domains.
- Identify data sources for artificial intelligence and statistical modeling.
- Collaborate closely with AI research scientists, data analysts, data engineers, and stakeholders to enhance analytical solutions.
- Partner with organizations outside Microsoft to support efforts in addressing food security, environmental concerns, disaster resiliency, and health.
- Represent the lab’s capabilities and projects to both technical and non-technical audiences through written and oral presentations.
- Advance the research agenda for AI For Good initiatives by preparing technical papers and presentations for internal and external publication.
