About the Job:
The Postdoctoral Associate will be supervised by Professor Samreen Malik and will be part of a research team focused on the development of human capital, climate, and sustainable development. Key topics include:
- The effect of air quality on students' health and non-cognitive functions
- Sleep patterns in children and their influence on academic achievement
- Adoption of water-saving technology in low-income households
- Impact of air cleaning in workplaces on worker productivity
The Postdoc will engage in projects involving public and private partnerships, particularly in the UAE, and will be responsible for organizing meetings, securing collaborator partnerships, and presenting research findings to partners and academics. The role includes co-authoring projects and providing data analytics, visualization, management, coding, and research design support, offering hands-on experience in social science research methods.
Principal Accountabilities:
- Support Dr. Malik and her team with data analytics and research analysis.
- Assist in data management including big data and database development.
- Provide guidance on data visualization techniques.
- Build relationships with UAE public and private entities.
- Engage in project-specific coding and algorithm development.
- Conduct training sessions and mentor students in their senior thesis projects.
Required Education:
- PhD in Economics, Engineering, Computational Science, Statistics, Computational Social Science, or a related field.
Required Experience:
- Understanding researcher requirements and translating them into functional solutions.
- Proficiency in data science programming languages such as STATA, Python, or R.
- Experience in data management, big data, data visualization, and machine learning.
- Professional experience in research settings is preferred.
Required Competencies:
- Strong programming skills in relevant languages (e.g., STATA, Python, R).
- Knowledge of statistical methods and computer-related research design.
- Familiarity with data visualization tools and techniques.
- Ability to communicate technical concepts to a non-technical audience.
- Strong organizational, presentation, and report writing skills.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
Preferred Competencies:
- Experience with software source code control systems.
- Ability to work both independently and in team environments.
