Steer Studios (formerly known as Savvy Games Studios) aims to establish a world-leading game studio in Saudi Arabia, focused on creating high-quality games for international audiences. Our mission includes developing homegrown intellectual property and positioning Saudi Arabia as a global hub for gaming. As part of our innovative team, you will collaborate with top global gaming talents who have relocated to Riyadh.
We are seeking a Lead Game Designer who is passionate about various genres of games and storytelling. In this project leadership role, you will assist in resolving production and creative challenges, working closely with the Creative/Game Director. Your responsibilities will include building design teams, fostering collaboration with partners, and focusing on people management, creativity, communication, and problem-solving.
Key Responsibilities:
- Stay current with player trends and incorporate applicable insights.
- Plan, detail, and supervise the work of Game Designers on your team.
- Ensure the creation of innovative gameplay and experiences aligned with the game vision.
- Conceptualize characters, rules, settings, and stories for new games.
- Independently manage creative processes from idea pitching to rapid prototyping.
- Define Game Design Documents (GDD) for various game systems, documenting all details and changes.
- Review game features to ensure alignment with the GDD and overall enjoyment.
- Provide feedback on game updates and oversee quality control.
- Collaborate effectively with artists, developers, and other team members.
- Train and develop junior game designers, promoting experience sharing.
- Advocate a game-developer mindset beyond technical mastery.
- Communicate and report to the Design Director to optimize the design team’s production capacity.
Qualifications and Key Skills:
- Expertise in mobile and free-to-play game design with multiple shipped titles.
- Over 6 years of experience as a game designer.
- Strong understanding of the gaming industry, market dynamics, and target audiences.
- Ability to drive game design based on key performance indicators (KPIs).
- Experience with Unity or Unreal game engines, adept at prototyping and shipping games.
- Extensive knowledge of game design principles and the current gaming landscape.
- Excellent communication skills and ability to write clear, concise documentation.
- Strong attention to detail from both technical and artistic perspectives.
- Proficiency in Excel or any scripting language for maintaining game design configurations.
- Strong proactive problem-solving skills and intuitive development abilities.
- A leader who fosters team collaboration and is a passionate gamer with an eye for detail.
- A fast and willing learner.
- A bachelor’s degree or college diploma in game design or a related field is preferred.
