The Autonomous Robotics Research Centre focuses on the development of unmanned vehicles across various domains, including space, air, land, sea, and underwater. The work involves research and development of Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAVs), autonomous marine vehicles, ground vehicles for on-road and off-road applications, and swarm architectures for heterogeneous drones. We aim to merge technological concepts into practical and operational solutions ready for real-world application.
As a Flight Robotics Engineer, you will oversee the development and delivery of embedded software, flight control systems, and perception technologies while engaging directly in design and problem-solving. Your role will involve directing flight control-related projects, fostering team collaboration, and resolving challenges to ensure the smooth operation of projects.
Responsibilities
- Act as a technical referent for the development and implementation of flight control systems and embedded software.
- Lead hands-on design and development efforts while directly engaging in problem-solving activities.
- Coordinate flight control-related projects, aligning objectives with the organization's goals.
- Promote effective communication among team members for the seamless integration of various technology modules.
- Identify and resolve obstacles encountered during project development.
Necessary Knowledge and Experience
- Minimum of 7 years in a leadership role within flight control or a related field.
- Extensive experience in developing drone autopilots and flight control systems, particularly with the PX4 and Ardupilot flight control stacks, as well as DJI SDKs.
- Proficiency with simulation tools like Gazebo and familiarity with ROS2 for robotics programming.
- Strong background in embedded systems, particularly for flight applications.
- Proficiency in programming languages such as C, C++, and Python for embedded software development.
- Knowledge of Real-Time Operating Systems (RTOS) principles applied within flight control contexts.
- Experience with computer vision technologies integration in flight systems, including tools like OpenCV, CNNs, and depth cameras.
Qualifications
- A Master’s degree in Aerospace Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or a related field.
