As part of the Autonomous Robotics Research Centre (ARRC), the Robotics Engineer - Indoor UAVs will contribute to the development of autonomous drones designed for indoor applications. This position offers an exciting opportunity to work alongside a team of experts in the field of robotics, focusing on designing, developing, and integrating algorithms that enhance drone autonomy.
Responsibilities
- Collaborate with the research team to design, develop, and integrate software stacks into the autonomous drone platform.
- Design and implement robust and scalable software architecture for the drone, ensuring efficient communication between sensors, control systems, and navigation algorithms.
- Apply sensor fusion techniques to enhance perception and localization capabilities, allowing the drone to navigate autonomously in dynamic indoor environments.
- Develop and optimize navigation algorithms for obstacle avoidance, path planning, and mission execution in indoor spaces.
- Work closely with hardware engineers to integrate sensors, actuators, and other hardware components, ensuring seamless communication with the software stack.
- Conduct rigorous testing, simulation, and validation of the drone's software and hardware components to ensure reliable performance.
- Stay informed on the latest advancements in robotics and drone technologies to incorporate innovative solutions into projects.
Requirements
- Proven experience with ROS software development and integration.
- Strong programming skills in languages such as C++ and Python.
- Familiarity with sensor fusion, perception, and autonomous navigation.
- Basic knowledge of computer vision.
- Experience optimizing algorithms for embedded systems and constrained resources.
- Understanding of software development best practices (Git, CI).
- Real-world experience with autonomous drones.
- Knowledge of PX4 and/or other autopilots.
- Experience with simulation tools like Gazebo.
- Familiarity with agile methodologies and task management tools (e.g., Jira).
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Robotics, Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or a related field.
