About the Job:
Technology Innovation Institute (TII) is a publicly funded research institute based in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates. It brings together a diverse community of leading scientists, engineers, mathematicians, and researchers focused on transforming challenges into pioneering research and technology prototypes. The Autonomous Robotics Research Centre at TII is dedicated to advancing unmanned vehicles across various domains, including space, aerial, terrestrial, aquatic, and subaquatic environments, aiming to enhance safety, environmental protection, and operational effectiveness in industrial and mission-critical settings.

As a Senior Deep Learning CV - Perception Engineer, your primary responsibility will be to develop, adapt, and improve Neural Network architectures tailored for various applications in autonomous vehicles. This includes creating user-friendly training frameworks and proposing optimal deployment strategies for these architectures within robotic systems. Key tasks involve object recognition, image segmentation, image enhancement, and processing multimodal image-like data.

Responsibilities:

  • Utilize state-of-the-art deep neural networks for time-series data processing and real-world applications.
  • Work with Generative Adversarial Networks (GANs) and Convolutional Neural Networks (CNNs) (both off-the-shelf and custom).
  • Build deep neural network models for scene understanding, semantic segmentation, object recognition, and image retrieval.
  • Acquire and manage large datasets from real-life scenarios for model training.
  • Conduct 2D and 3D image processing across different spectra (RGB, Lidar, depth, etc.).
  • Optimize algorithms for real-time performance within low computational power constraints.
  • Collaborate with a multidisciplinary team to facilitate the realization of final products.
  • Write efficient, readable code and review colleagues' code.
  • Develop ROS nodes for integrated robotic systems.

Requirements:

  • Proven track record in image processing for autonomous vehicles, including feature extraction, object detection, and scene understanding.
  • In-depth knowledge of Machine Learning and Neural Network principles.
  • Experience in optimizing algorithms for embedded systems and constrained resources.
  • Proficiency in Python; familiarity with C++ and Matlab is a plus.
  • Experience with TensorFlow, Keras, or Pytorch.
  • Awareness of software development best practices (Git, CI).

Nice to Have:

  • Experience in real-world applications of autonomous vehicles.
  • Familiarity with ROS/ROS2.
  • Knowledge in Localization, Mapping, and Perception (VO, VIO, SLAM).
  • Research and Development background with publications in tier 1 conferences/journals (e.g., CVPR, ECCV, ICCV).
  • Experience with Deep Reinforcement Learning.
  • Familiarity with agile methodologies and task management tools (e.g., Jira).

Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree in computer vision, computer science, telecommunications, mathematics, or related fields applied to robotics.
  • A bachelor's degree in the above fields combined with master-equivalent work experience is also acceptable in lieu of a master’s degree.

TII is committed to overcoming society's significant challenges through rigorous scientific inquiry and collaboration with leading international institutions. Join us in pushing the boundaries of technology and research for global impact.
