The Exploration Company is a European aerospace company developing reusable spacecraft for cargo and, in the future, crewed missions. Its principal program is Nyx, a modular, reusable capsule designed to carry payloads to low Earth orbit, dock with space stations, and return cargo to Earth. Nyx is notable for using green propellant rather than conventional toxic propulsion. The company also develops a reusable rocket engine and an in-orbit refuelling spacecraft. The Exploration Company was founded in July 2021 by Helene Huby together with a team of engineers who had worked on European programs such as Orion-ESM and ATV at Airbus and ArianeGroup. It is building Nyx in part under a contract with the European Space Agency's LEO Cargo Return Service initiative, and operates across multiple European sites.
