An experienced 3D Modeler / BIM Modeler is responsible for developing accurate, coordinated, and information-rich models for airport infrastructure projects. The role supports multidisciplinary design delivery from concept through detailed design and construction documentation, covering airside, landside, utilities, and specialist airport systems. The job holder will convert engineering, survey, and GIS inputs into reliable models, drawings, quantities, and visualizations, while applying project BIM requirements, ISO 19650 principles, quality procedures, and responsible AI-assisted workflows.
Key Responsibilities
Modelling & Design Production
- Create and manage coordinated 3D models for airport infrastructure, including runways, taxiways, utilities, drainage, grading, and specialist equipment.
- Build terrain, corridor, and utility models from surveys, GIS data, point clouds, and engineering specifications.
- Produce accurate construction plans, sections, profiles, schedules, and quantity take-offs traceable to the master model.
- Maintain object libraries, families, templates, and naming conventions to ensure consistency across projects.
- Apply precise levels of geometry, classification, and asset data per the project BIM Execution Plan.
Coordination & Information Management
- Share and manage discipline models within the Common Data Environment (CDE) following project protocols.
- Integrate discipline models into federated systems, leading clash detection, clearance checks, and model health reviews.
- Collaborate with engineers to verify design intent and resolve data inconsistencies or geometric conflicts early.
- Support 4D planning, constructability assessments, logistics, and facility asset handover.
Visualisation & Communication
- Produce high-quality renderings, animations, walkthroughs, and phasing sequences for stakeholder reviews.
- Streamline models for real-time visualization while retaining exact design geometry and intent.
AI-Assisted Modelling & Automation
- Use approved AI and scripting tools to accelerate model generation, parametric studies, rendering, and data verification.
- Validate all AI-assisted outputs against approved engineering inputs to ensure final deliverable integrity.
- Strict adherence to data protection, intellectual property, and cybersecurity rules; public or unapproved AI platforms are prohibited.
Quality, Safety & Delivery
- Perform self-checks and peer reviews on geometry, quantities, and standards compliance before final issue.
- Meet delivery schedules, flag constraints early, and support construction-stage queries or as-built updates.
- Follow all company and client health, safety, environmental, and document control procedures.
What We're Looking For
- Diploma, higher diploma or bachelor’s degree in civil engineering, architecture, geomatics, BIM, drafting, or a related technical discipline.
- Minimum five years of relevant 3D / BIM modelling experience, preferably including airports, transportation, or other major infrastructure projects.
- Advanced practical capability in AutoCAD Civil 3D and Revit, including model structuring, coordinates, surfaces, corridors, utilities, object data, families, and production drawings.
- Working knowledge of Navisworks Manage, Autodesk Construction Cloud / BIM 360, and at least one visualisation platform such as 3ds Max, Twinmotion, Lumion, or an equivalent tool.
- Demonstrable experience in multidisciplinary model federation, clash detection, issue management, quantity extraction, and model-based design reviews.
- Practical knowledge of ISO 19650 principles, BIM Execution Plans, Common Data Environments, naming and status conventions, model approval workflows, and information security.
- Experience with Dynamo, Python, visual scripting, parametric design, automated checking, point-cloud processing, or GIS integration would be an advantage.
- Understanding of airport geometry, operational constraints, safeguarded zones, airside interfaces, and specialist equipment such as PCA, GPU, VDGS, and PBB would be an advantage.
