Reporting Structure

  • Reports to: 2nd Assistant Engineer
  • Supervises: Motor Operator

Pre-requisites/Qualification

  • High School Diploma (U.S.) / Proof of Completion of Formal Education or Relevant Craft Certificate (where applicable)
  • Successful Military Discharge – Preferred for U.S.
  • Graduate of Trade School or University with relevant knowledge and training – Preferred
  • Valid 3rd Engineer Unlimited License (Class 3 Motor above 3000kW)
  • Valid medical examination and vaccination certificates
  • Basic computer skills
  • Knowledge of technical calculations required for mechanical operations

  • Observe the assigned duties and responsibilities in the safety case for the position, if applicable.
  • Participate fully in emergency drills and respond to emergencies as per duties outlined in the station bill.

Operational Discipline Requirements

  • Application and participation in the Task Planning & Risk Assessment Process:
    • Understand roles and responsibilities assigned at the pre-job meeting.
    • Recognize hazards associated with tasks and implement control measures to mitigate risks.
    • Execute tasks in a disciplined manner and recognize at-risk behavior, calling ‘Time out for Safety’ when necessary.
    • Participate in After Action Reviews to provide feedback on lessons learned.

HSE Requirements

  • Protect personnel, the environment, and assets by eliminating hazards and reducing health and safety risks.
  • Execute work in accordance with company OI & HSE requirements.
  • Call a Time Out when unsafe behaviors or conditions are observed.
  • Use WorkSight ENGAGE during planned work execution.
  • Report incidents, potential hazards, or abnormal situations to a supervisor.
  • Understand your role in emergencies as outlined in the Emergency Response Plan and Station Bill.

Duties

  • Carry out all duties in compliance with company Operational Discipline expectations and HSE requirements, ensuring that individuals involved have the necessary skills and experience for tasks.

General Duties

  • Operations/Maintenance:

    • Ensure conformance to company policies and regulations.
    • Perform daily inspections and maintenance on mechanical equipment.
    • Maintain compliance with the AIM (Asset & Inventory Management) system.
    • Carry out and coordinate periodic maintenance with supervisors.
    • Report accurately on repair and maintenance activities.
    • Assist with power plants, cooling, lube oil, and fuel systems maintenance and repairs.
    • Facilitate troubleshooting and repair of drilling equipment.
    • Maintain marine equipment and adhere to permit to work systems.
    • Implement findings from audits as per Client, Regulatory Authority, or management recommendations.
    • Monitor and manage consumables/materials in coordination with the Second Engineer.
    • Ensure third-party equipment is certified and maintained appropriately.
    • Inform supervisors of any issues affecting safe rig operations.
    • Conduct classification society surveys as part of machinery oversight.
  • Personnel:

    • Foster good working relationships with other departments, third-party personnel, and customers.
    • Ensure Maintenance personnel meet training requirements.
    • Mentor and coach crew members to develop their competence.
    • Provide leadership and motivation to maintenance crews.
    • Conduct training to ensure personnel can perform their jobs competently.
    • Engage fully in the annual performance appraisal process.
    • Apply appropriate accountability and recognition processes.
