About the Role
The Special Airport Systems Engineer is responsible for leading and supporting the planning, design, specification, procurement support, integration, testing, and handover of aircraft stand equipment and associated airport systems. This role covers Pre-Conditioned Air (PCA), 400 Hz Ground Power Units (GPU), Visual Docking Guidance Systems (VDGS), Passenger Boarding Bridges (PBB), and their interfaces with stand planning, terminal buildings, utilities, ICT, controls, and airport operations. The job holder will provide technically robust, safe, maintainable, and energy-efficient solutions throughout the project lifecycle, while applying quality procedures, systems-engineering principles, and responsible AI-assisted workflows.

Key Responsibilities
- Lead the planning, design, and specification of airport stand equipment and fixed ground service systems.
- Develop system layouts, calculations, technical reports, specifications, and tender documentation.
- Coordinate multidisciplinary interfaces with civil, structural, architectural, mechanical, electrical, and operational teams.
- Ensure compliance with ICAO, IATA, airport standards, and industry best practices.
- Support technical evaluations, supplier engagement, procurement activities, testing, commissioning, and handover.
- Drive innovation through digital engineering, BIM coordination, simulation tools, and AI-assisted engineering workflows.
- Contribute to project delivery by managing technical quality, design risks, stakeholder coordination, and programme commitments.
What We're Looking For
- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical, Electrical, Mechatronics, Systems Engineering, or a related discipline.
- 12+ years of experience, including significant exposure to airport special systems and aircraft stand equipment.
- Proven experience delivering PCA, 400Hz GPU, VDGS, and PBB systems on major airport developments.
- Strong knowledge of airport operations, aircraft stand planning, and multidisciplinary engineering coordination.
- Experience in technical specifications, tender evaluations, supplier management, testing, and commissioning.
- Familiarity with ICAO, IATA, EN, SAE, and ISO standards relevant to airport systems.
- Proficiency in AutoCAD and Microsoft Office; Revit, Navisworks, AviPLAN, or AutoTURN experience is an advantage.
