Element has an opportunity for an Associate Engineer to join our rapidly expanding team. As a member of the operations team, the Engineer will perform a variety of routine and non-routine testing assignments within the department assigned and ensure timely and accurate test results under minimal direct supervision. Responsibilities:
- Perform coatings testing related to qualification tests on heat shrink sleeves and product qualification tests on elastomers and polymers based on international standards.
- Conduct sour and non-sour corrosion testing on various ferrous and non-ferrous alloys as applicable.
- Carry out metallurgical examinations (e.g., macro examination, microstructure examination, grain size, inclusion count, banding index, phase balance, nodularity).
- Support in performing mechanical testing with hands-on experience in tensile testing, bend testing, Charpy impact testing, and hardness testing.
- Provide technical and engineering inputs to support the development of new technologies within the laboratory.
- Ensure the accurate and timely release of test data to customers for sign-off by technical leads and maintain records of quality control data as required.
- Interact with customers and witness representatives regarding test procedures, technical issues, and questions.
- Contribute to business development opportunities with new or existing customers.
- Work in varied shifts and at site locations for testing as necessary.
Skills / Qualifications:
- Working knowledge of laboratory safety and work culture in an ISO 17025 laboratory.
- Proficient in handling chemicals and reagents.
- A minimum of an engineering degree, preferably in Metallurgy or Mechanical disciplines.
- At least 2 years of relevant hands-on laboratory testing experience.
- Strong ability to apply academic knowledge to practical contexts within Element’s business.
- Operational knowledge of LIMS and similar laboratory management systems is advantageous.
- Experience in performing site tests (e.g., PMI, hardness, ferrite, replica) is useful.
- In-depth understanding of testing concepts and hands-on experience with test equipment.
- Ability to analyze and compile testing data effectively.
- Strong computer skills and good oral and written communication skills in English.
