Position

As an Automation Engineer focused on Powertrain, you will support the development, deployment, and optimization of automated manufacturing equipment integral to Powertrain production. Your role involves implementing, debugging, and enhancing control systems to achieve safety, quality, and throughput goals while adhering to established standards, collaborating closely with senior automation engineers. You will aid in continuous improvement initiatives and facilitate the transition of equipment from development to production by working alongside Manufacturing, Controls, Quality, Maintenance, and external equipment partners.

You will:

  • Support the implementation and maintenance of equipment control systems, including equipment I/Os and fundamental machine logic.
  • Assist with layout engineering efforts to optimize Powertrain line layouts, material flow, and equipment integration.
  • Support automation systems encompassing robotics, end-of-arm tooling, pick-and-place automation, position sensors, material handling systems, fluid dispensing, vision systems, conveyors, and laser cleaning or welding equipment.
  • Write, modify, and debug PLC code under established architectures and standards with a focus on structure, documentation, and maintainability.
  • Troubleshoot and optimize automated equipment to enhance cycle time, uptime, and yield, escalating complex issues as necessary.

You bring:

  • A Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a related field.
  • Over 5 years of experience in Automation or Controls Engineering within a manufacturing context, preferably in automotive or high-volume production.
  • A working knowledge of electromechanical and mechatronic systems and their integration into automated equipment.
  • Hands-on experience with industrial automation equipment programming, particularly PLCs (Allen Bradley and/or Siemens), with exposure to Safety PLCs being advantageous.
