Avionics Specialist

About the Role
The role involves providing day-to-day Avionics Engineering advice to Royal Saudi Air Force (RSAF) Officers. The Avionics Specialist will oversee the implementation of avionic upgrade projects, including analytical, design, integration, test, and instructional tasks in the field of avionics engineering. This position is responsible for managing ten professional grade direct reports and serves as a primary point of contact for all RSAF avionics issues.

Job Accountabilities

• Analyze, evaluate, and devise solutions for problems relating to civil and military avionics systems, including communication, navigation, radar, instrument, reconnaissance, electronic warfare, and weapon delivery systems.
• Create original designs for minor alterations to existing systems to enhance reliability, maintainability, or performance.
• Evaluate designs of proposed new systems and equipment or changes to existing systems and equipment to ensure compliance with design criteria.
• Participate in the research, development, and implementation of programs aimed at improving safety, reliability, and maintainability of avionics systems, subsystems, and components.
• Develop Statements of Requirement (SoR), Statements of Work (SoW), and Engineering Plans for the procurement and modification of aircraft, training, and support equipment.
• Review vendor specifications, SoWs, and test plans for new or modified avionics systems.
• Recommend tests to verify performance against specification requirements and monitor test programs; evaluate/analyze test data to identify issues.
• Provide guidance and instruction to engineers and aircrew on avionics issues, assisting other RSAF departments concerning aircraft and procedures.
• Recommend improvements and upgrade programs for RSAF aircraft avionics systems or equipment.
• Prepare RSAF staff correspondence, including reports, letters, presentations, etc., regarding avionics systems issues.
• Accompany RSAF officers to briefings and meetings concerning avionics or equipment development programs, both within and outside the Kingdom.
• Communicate at senior levels within RSAF HQ, RSAF bases, UKMOD, USAF, contractors, and vendors.
• Prepare specifications and advise on the acquisition of new airborne avionics equipment.
• Review, monitor, and evaluate all aspects of avionics equipment performance, engineering, maintenance, and support, ensuring testing is conducted per prepared procedures.
• Coordinate with specific systems engineers and prepare detailed reports on test programs undertaken.
• Participate in acceptance testing of aircraft and support equipment; evaluate major defect and aircraft incident reports, providing support for accident investigations.
• Evaluate and conduct cost-benefit analyses of improvement initiatives and progress authorizations of engineering modifications under RSAF Engineering Authority.
• Manage engineering modifications' approvals through external design organizations and technical authorities, ensuring that line management functions for the company employees are executed effectively.

Recruitment Specification
Essential

• Degree in Electronics Engineering (or related field); HND/HNC or equivalent with suitable experience is acceptable.
• Extensive experience in the design, development, integration, and testing of civil and military avionics systems and equipment.
• Comprehensive knowledge of all RSAF aircraft, avionics systems, maintenance management, and analytical/presentation techniques.
• Familiarity with design procedures, industrial processes, and general supply and aircraft servicing techniques.
• Awareness of International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) Communications Navigation and Surveillance/Air Traffic Management (CNS/ATM) requirements relevant to civil and military aircraft.
• Strong understanding of maintainability, reliability, system diagnosis, and failure modes.
• Knowledge of military aircraft, including associated drawings, maintenance, and logistics management.
• Thorough understanding of company Policies, Processes, and Procedures.
• Proficient command of English in both written and verbal form; computer literacy with the ability to produce high-quality correspondences and plans.
• Ability to communicate effectively with senior-level personnel.

Desirable

• Chartered Engineer status.
• In-depth knowledge of the RSAF organization with hands-on experience of applicable procedures and processes.
• Familiarity with the RSAF Quality System, procedures, and policies, including quality programs at base level.
• Experience in managing, installing, commissioning, and maintaining projects containing significant avionics systems.
• Previous role as an Engineering Officer or Senior Non-Commissioned Officer in a military environment, with experience at Command HQ, Ministry of Defence, or company level involving avionics policy staffing and its implementation.
