Key Accountabilities
Lab Testing
- Receive, check, and register samples to ensure appropriate tests and analysis are undertaken and develop reports on test results in an accurate and timely manner according to planned schedules to meet end user requirements.
- Stay informed about regulatory requirements pertaining to environmental compliance, chemicals used in the plant, Material Safety Data Sheets (MSDS), plant Piping and Instrumentation Diagrams (P&IDs), Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), work instructions, emergency operation procedures, and all related documents to ensure compliance with standards and norms.
Plant Chemistry
- Interpret results of tests to help establish optimum operational parameters for current and long-term plant integrity.
- Provide process-related assistance to the Operations team on matters affecting plant process and performance to maximize yield in accordance with quality guidelines.
- Support internal and external Quality, Health, Safety, and Environmental audits to effectively implement corrective actions suggested by the audit team.
Laboratory Handling
- Ensure yearly third-party calibration of lab instruments as per Integrated Management System (IMS) requirements to maintain equipment in safe and efficient working condition.
- Investigate and submit recommendations to the Chief Chemist on various operational problems related to chemical and physical analysis to acquire data for process control and quality verification.
- Maintain adequate stock of all chemical consumables (bulk and fine chemicals, glassware, etc.) and dosing and testing equipment to ensure timely availability and uninterrupted laboratory services.
Continuous Improvement
- Contribute to identifying and implementing change initiatives, programs, and projects in line with organizational standards.

- Adhere to relevant organizational and departmental policies, processes, standard operating procedures, and instructions to ensure work is completed to the required standard consistently.
Health, Safety, Security & Environment
- Follow all relevant health, safety, security, and environmental procedures, instructions, and controls to guarantee employee safety and environmental compliance.
Related Assignments
- Perform any other duties as required by the line manager.
Communication & Working Relationships
- Collaborate closely with the Chief Chemist, Operators, and Maintenance team.
Qualifications, Experience, & Skills
Minimum Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry or Chemical Engineering.
Minimum Experience:
- 3 years of experience in a laboratory function within a reputed plant, preferably in power and water desalination.
